Outlive is a youth suicide prevention programme led by the Centre for Mental Health and Policy, Indian Law Society, in collaboration with Sangath and Quicksand Design Studio. The programme focuses on engaging young people aged 18-24 with lived experience of suicide, self-harm, emotional distress, or mental health challenges across urban cities in India. Outlive aims to create opportunities for young people to participate in conversations and activities around youth suicide prevention in India. The programme recognises the importance of youth voices and encourages young people to contribute to reducing stigma, strengthening peer support, and working towards meaningful change in their communities. A key part of Outlive is Outlive Chat, a confidential, chat-based emotional support service for youth in distress. The platform provides an online space where young people can connect with peer supporters and talk about difficult feelings, personal experiences, or other concerns affecting their emotional wellbeing. The service is built around listening, empathy, and respectful conversations. Outlive also offers the Youth Action for Suicide Prevention (YASP) Fellowship, which provides opportunities for young people to engage with policy and governance related to suicide prevention. Through youth leadership and participation, the fellowship encourages young people to explore issues affecting their communities and contribute to discussions around systemic change. Another important area of Outlive's work is Public Engagement Campaigns. These initiatives provide young people with resources and opportunities to participate in conversations about suicide prevention and challenge the stigma that can make it difficult to talk about mental health and emotional distress. Together, these initiatives create different ways for young people to learn, connect, participate, and contribute to suicide prevention. Outlive places emphasis on youth experiences and perspectives, recognising that young people can play an important role in shaping supportive environments and encouraging more open conversations. Whether you are interested in learning about youth suicide prevention, exploring peer support, finding mental health resources, or understanding opportunities for youth participation, Outlive provides information and resources to help people engage with these topics.
